Quilts Rust/Rose

Quilts All these quilts use the same focus fabric, “joie de vivre” by Luana Rubun for Robert Kaufman. They all use blocks of the mandala design. The predominant colors in this block are clear medium turquoise, pastel butter yellow and new leaf spring green. I made 3 series to complement these 3 color schemes. Although the centers are the same and the designs are similar, the look of each quilt is very different.. These quilts accentuate earth colors of yellows and rusts The design is 9 square blocks surrounding a 6 sided kaleidoscope mandala in the center. Kaleidoscope blocks are created by cutting pie shaped wedges of a repeating pattern and sewing them back together to create a new design as the whole pie. Certain types of fabric patterns make great designs and this fabric is exceptional. The 4 corner blocks are borderd by a rose flannel that brings out the hearts in the joie de vivre fabric. All blocks and outer borders include fabric from ‘woodland pines” for Moda. This brushed flannel uses strips cut on the selvage and also cut to the perpendicular to reverse the lines in the pattern. The inner border surrounding the 9 block center is rust “Tokoyo” flannel by Red rooster. The Moda marbles cream yellow border bridges the yellow background of the center and outer “joie de vivre” border near the edge. The flannel outer edge is soft for sleeping and snuggling near your face.
