violet floral
This quilt has a center square of shibori fabric cut diagonally into a 4 sided mandala. Paula Nadelstern designed a shibori fabric which is among the softest I have ever felt. Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique that creates accordion folds of color. Her shibori fabric is no longer made so I only use it in special projects. I used her purple shibori for the center, borders and the edging as well. There are eight 8 pointed star squares surrounding the center. The interaction of the light and dark fabrics creates a secondary row of medium tone purples. creating a larger mandala effect overall as each layer builds on the one before it. The layers of light and dark keep the eye moving. The very outer border of shibori is cut along the selvage to use the opposite design as the center and 4th layer. The many variations of violet, lavender, cornflower, and purple in the flowers like iris, pansies, chrysanthemums, tulips make this quilt a celebration of color for any purple lover. The edging of this quilt is incredibly soft This quilt is heavily machine quilted using the stitch in the ditch pattern for repeated washings. The backing is 200 count white moda muslin.
