Frogs Dancing Around The World

This quilt was made when my son Jonathan was traveling around the world. He did it twice and this was when he was enrolled in Semester-at-Sea and traveled on a ship that circled the globe. The dancing frogs started the whole project, they seemed so happy and symbolized him on such an adventure. The outer layers developed organically after that. I finished with the appliqued embroidered "world" including a tiny ship. The outer planets represent future exploration. No colors are repeated in the sunrise and sunsets, which he said were incredible on the open sea with no land in sight. I wanted to honor the inner knowledge of an expanded world view as well as celebrate all the experiences of visiting so many countries and cultures. This quilt embodies the heroes journey into the unknown.
