Joie De Vivre Bag

Joie de vivre The fabric used in these pieces was designed by Luana Rubin for Robert Kaufman fabrics to benefit breast cancer research. 50 cents per yard of the wholesale cost of the fabric goes to the breast cancer research foundation. When I discovered this fabric I loved it, and then when I learned why it was designed, the pattern design was even more incredible. It was made for the life love hope quilt challenge contest sponsored by Bernina, Robert Kaufman and YLI. The winning and select quilts were part of a year long traveling exhibition. The fabric used in these bags is peacock medallion yellow screen print D #5986 “joie de vivre” (french for joy of life). I have a treasured friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer right when I found this fabric and I made her a quilt with it. I kept on sewing until I used up all of this fabric I could find in hopes that other people could have a gift during such a hard time, with any illness. This pattern truly embodies a feeling of joy and feminine grace. These bags have a center mandala of the most beautiful pattern repeat in this fabric. It is bordered by butternut fossil fern by benartex, rust red rooster by Tokoyo, and woodland pines by Holly Taylor for moda. The backing and handles are a very soft flannel in coordinating Woodland Pines. All fronts have an interior muslin backing to prevent exposure of seams from the front panel. This bag is large enough to tote to appointments and therapy sessions with books, snacks, and water bottles, and odds and ends. I have priced these lower than the cost of time and materials, they are made with thoughts for healing... and hopes that they will find a home with someone who needs some brightness. 15" x 15" closed series of 11 ( this fabric is no longer available)
